This Blog Post Could Change Everything

I was watching the TV promos for next week's episode of Junior Master Chef and they made the bold claim that 'this episode could change everything'.

Unsurprisingly Junior Master Chef isn't the only show making this claim. I've noticed other shows, particularly character driven drama series, declaring that this is the episode that could change everything.

The keyword is 'could' because I've gone on to watch these so called series changing episodes and invariably nothing much actually changes. There may be some surprising event during the episode but by the end it's pretty much the status quo.

I understand that promos have to get you hooked into the next episode however the technique of claiming the next episode could change everything is becoming some what over used. Some shows even make this claim every week.

Imagine if Junior Master Chef's next episode did change everything. All the contestants came back and were told from now on it's a spelling bee. No more cooking, we're going to have you spell the ingredients in your recipes. There's a delivered promise.

Not only that, imagine the outcry from the viewing audience. Change is rarely easy and viewers nearly always have something to say about real change. If your audience isn't at least discussing the change then you probably haven't changed anything.

Much like this blog post really. I don't expect much discussion but then I didn't really set out to change much of anything.

I doubt advertisers and promo creators will really take much notice of me and start thinking of better hooks than 'this is the episode that could change everything'.

    I got that from the synopsis for 'City Homicide for last week's episode, both in print in the TV mag, and on the TV promos!

    It said there was a bomb in a building that they were looking for, and really built it up! I thought it was one of those things where they would be looking for the bomb before it went off, having been notified of the time etc!

    Turned out to be a bit of a fizzer, as all that happened was that they caught the bloke that had planted the bomb, but I didn't even see them find it - and I swear I didn't fall asleep this time!

    I kept waiting for the suspense and drama with everyone sweating to find the bomb, and it being got rid of our deactivated at the last minute, but it didn't happen. That was the end of the episode where the bloke was quickly caught after them all pointing their guns!

    I thought...was that it....as the episode finished - without any drama at all! Disappointing! Hope tonight's storyline is a bit better, though they are usually good.

Boom Crash Opera are an Australian Band that reached the peak of their popularity in the mid to late nineteen eighties. They are a band that I knew about at that time but was never really excited by until they released their ill fated double album Born and Born Again in 1995 (Album cover pictured). Kids today are smarter than their parents?

I’ve heard it quite frequently in the media – even Dr Phil has said it. I say speak for yourself. It’s not true and don’t let the media fool you. Today’s kids may have access to more information that may give them more choices but in my experience, they only take in what they want to hear and still make stupid, uninformed decisions. Just like we used to at their age. Like any cross section of people there will be exceptions. There are kids that are genuinely smarter, more mature and responsible for their age. However the vast majority know everything they need to know by the time they turn fourteen. What If Being Yourself Isn't Good Enough?

One of my most personal public videos is a collection of outtakes edited together with my narration, read word for word, from my blog post written back on August 5th, 2007 titled Is Being Me Good Enough?  I made the similarly titled video the next day. At the time the video (which you can view below) generated some discussion in the comments and was a real turning point for me personally in how I thought about myself and how I presented on camera. It took a weight off my shoulders. The Lego Man - He's got all that!

Who would have thought that owning one of the worlds largest, private Lego collections could take you so far. Tom Lucieer of Angaston, South Australia, not only has met the Queen (of England) but is a frequent guest of her majesty and family when they are in Australia. He's also met Prince Charles, Lady Diana and Camila Parker-Bowles. Not only that, he grew up with TV Vet, Dr Harry, and is a friend of the Irwin family (yes, that's Steve Irwin's family). Tom will happily tell you all this as part of the guided tour of his collection, which, aside from Lego, includes much railway memorabilia and colourful anecdotes about days gone by, his achievements and more. Is AI Art 'Art'? The Say NO to AI Art Movement, and Why Human Artists Will Adapt

Right now there is a big debate over not just whether AI art is 'art' but whether AI's are actually ripping off the work of actual human artists, without their consent, to create their images - particularly images 'in the style of' specific artists. How to Transfer Any Line Art to Your Griptape - Easy Skateboard Griptape Art Tutorial

For those of us who have tried to create our own griptape art, using paint pens, you'll know reproducing your design onto the grip, without making any mistakes is incredibly challenging. Mostly because you just have to go for it and draw the design freehand, with paint pens, directly onto the griptape. You can make the odd mistake here or there but if you get the proportions of the design completely wrong, it can be very difficult to fix. Often you just have to live with the mistake.
