Podcasts for Comic Book Movie Nerds and Enterprising Side Hustlers

If you haven’t discovered Podcasts yet you’re missing out on an entire world of ready to listen to content covering a whole library of interests that you can download into your favorite mobile podcast app and listen to at your convenience. If you have I thought I’d spend take the opportunity to recommend some of the podcasts I’m listening to.

My podcast app of choice is Beyond Pod for Android but any podcast app will probably do. Once you have your app installed search for these shows from within the app.

Comic Book Movie Podcasts

If you haven’t noticed I’m a total comic book movie nerd but I don’t really know anyone who likes these movies as much as I do. Consequently I seek out podcasts where I can hear all kinds of discussions surrounding these movies, from the moment they are first announced, to a scene by scene, spoiler breakdown of the final movie release (after I’ve seen the film of course).

Fatman Beyond - Director, Kevin Smith, and screen writer Marc Bernardin, deliver a usually live show (from the Scum and Villainy Cantina), talking all things Marvel, DC, and other comic book related topics. Very casual show with plenty of humor and the occasional guest.
Batman-on-Film - Official podcast of the Batman-on-Film website features site founder Bill ‘Jett’ Ramey and a selection of regular contributors. While the focus is primarily on Batman movies the discussion does extend to other upcoming DC film releases.
DC Films Squadcast - Similar to Batman-on-Film but with deeper discussions on all DC movie properties. Hosts Tim Yoko and Scott McClellan, while DC fans, will still let you know if something isn’t quite what they’d hoped for, but generally with a constructive discussion that may get you thinking.
MCU Fan Show - Sean Gerber and Paul Herman dissect all things MCU related. Sean is by far one of the most knowledgeable comic book movie podcasters around, with not just comic book movie content but plenty of understanding of the movie business behind the scenes. (Really wish he’d bring back his DCU Fan Show as well). This show is a must for MCU fans.
The Weekly Planet - An all Australian Podcast that’s gained international following thanks to hosts Mr Sunday Movies (James Brooks) and Nick Mason, who always deliver highly entertaining and hilarious commentary, yet still manage to dive deep, on all things comic book movie related (or even sometimes not related).

Podcasts for Enterprising Side Hustlers

Just like with comic book movies, I don’t really know anyone who is constantly working on some kind of side hustle, trying to make enough to cover living expenses, so I never actually have to work a ‘regular job’. Again I turn to podcasts for tips and advice.

Side Hustle School - Chris Guillebeau has become synonymous with inspiring people to live independent lives outside of the 9 to 5 rat race. Side Hustle school is his daily, ten minute podcast featuring real people and how they started their side hustles. Listen to the daily show or explore the 3-4 year back catalogue of shows for side hustles you may like to try yourself. Well worth exploring the Side Hustle School website for episodes too for all the show notes. Chris has also written a number of books including The $100 Start Up.
The Mind Your Business Podcast - A very different type of podcast, host, James Wedmore, explores how you can be more successful through mindset and thinking your way to success, often with guests and success stories from his Business By Design Course. It’s all a bit Woo-woo (as he sometimes says) but I’ve actually had a few shows really be more than helpful, and I’m definitely not into ‘woo-woo’ thinking. Again worth exploring the show’s website for back episodes. I highly recommend Episode 125 if you’re dealing with any kind of long term pain that isn’t responding to medical treatment (be warned, you may not like what you hear but it’s definitely worth hearing).
ProBlogger Podcast - Not currently actively publishing episodes, I’m still mentioning it because it’s well worth diving into the back catalogue to do the 31 days to a better blog challenge. If you’re in any way interested in starting a money making blog, host, Darren Rowse, is the recognized guru of earning a full time living from blogging. He’s still very active on the ProBlogger website (as he should be).

TV Series Review: Humans (2015-2018, 3 Seasons) No Spoilers

Colin Morgan, Katherine Parkinson, Ivanno Jeremiah, Gemma Chan, and Emily Berrington in Humans (2015) W hile it may seem late to be reviewing Humans now, nearly seven years after the show wrapped, the only thing that's really aged about it is the opening titles... and even then, not that much. I think I caught the first season on Netflix back in 2015, and then kind of dropped off waiting for a new season to appear. As of writing this, all three seasons are on Amazon Prime. Humans is set in a parallel world that looks much like ours except humanoid robot helpers, that look just like real humans, called 'Synths', are now common place. Season one begins at the point where the first synths go from being subservient machines to gaining consciousness, and explores not only how humanity reacts to that but how the synths react to humanity's perceptions as well. I'm Confused About Why People Prefer to Say Discombobulated?

D iscombobulated. Is a word that I think someone rediscovered about three or four years ago (maybe more because the pandemic years have thrown out my sense of time) and now I hear it a lot. It's not a new word by any means, but when I started hearing multiple celebrities using it in everyday sentences, I actively had to look up what it meant. Define it with as many synonyms as you like but essentially it's just another word meaning 'confused'. Seinfeld Quotes: Quotes.net The words are pretty much interchangeable. He was discombobulated by too many choices. He was confused by too many choices. My confusion is the length of the word. It's unnecessarily long with too many syllables. There are many other words that mean confused, and therefore also mean discombobulated. Most of them are shorter and easier to say. So why not just say 'confused'? Australian Federal Election 2025 - World's Most Boring Government Re-elected by Landside - We're Even More Fine!

Anthony Albanese Victory by ChatGPT and TET. W hen I started writing about the 2025 Federal election the polls were suggesting the world's most boring government was crusing to a defeat . As it turns out, boring is good, and Australia wants more of it, handing the current government a landslide win with a majority vote. Anthony Albanese became the first PM since John Howard to win a consecutive term, and the first Labor PM since Bob Hawke to do so. Some of that comes down to the leadership revolving door both major parties had through the mid 2000s. Although Anthony is my preferred PM over Dutton the irony is Dutton sounds more like a leader with a fairly commanding voice and an ability to speak well, without sounding like he's waffling and dodging questions, even if he is. Movie Review: Captain America: Brave New World (2025) No Spoilers

I decided not see Captain America: Brave New World in a cinema because everything I heard about the film pointed to a disjointed mess, from testing poorly, to whole characters being added in during reshoots. The trailers looked okay but, since they featured Red Hulk, quite a bit, it felt like there wasn't much left as a drawcard for seeing the film in a cinema. Having now seen the film on Disney+ I feel it was a good decision. While the big budget effects no doubt would've looked better on a big screen, the story wasn't particularly complex or intriguing enough to make the film stand out. If anything, it's a straight forward action movie with a hero who is just kind of... there. The story revolves around a plot to kill the newly elected US President, former General Thaddeus Ross (Harrison Ford). Now More Than Ever It's Important Not To Take Things At Face Value - AI Scams Are Very Real

Things that used to indicate something was on the level can very easily be faked by generative AI in a practice known as 'deep faking'. Where a person's likeness (image and voice) is used to generate video of them doing or saying something they didn't.
