Podcasts for Comic Book Movie Nerds and Enterprising Side Hustlers

If you haven’t discovered Podcasts yet you’re missing out on an entire world of ready to listen to content covering a whole library of interests that you can download into your favorite mobile podcast app and listen to at your convenience. If you have I thought I’d spend take the opportunity to recommend some of the podcasts I’m listening to.

My podcast app of choice is Beyond Pod for Android but any podcast app will probably do. Once you have your app installed search for these shows from within the app.

Comic Book Movie Podcasts

If you haven’t noticed I’m a total comic book movie nerd but I don’t really know anyone who likes these movies as much as I do. Consequently I seek out podcasts where I can hear all kinds of discussions surrounding these movies, from the moment they are first announced, to a scene by scene, spoiler breakdown of the final movie release (after I’ve seen the film of course).
  • Fatman Beyond - Director, Kevin Smith, and screen writer Marc Bernardin, deliver a usually live show (from the Scum and Villainy Cantina), talking all things Marvel, DC, and other comic book related topics. Very casual show with plenty of humor and the occasional guest.
     
  • Batman-on-Film - Official podcast of the Batman-on-Film website features site founder Bill ‘Jett’ Ramey and a selection of regular contributors. While the focus is primarily on Batman movies the discussion does extend to other upcoming DC film releases.
     
  • DC Films Squadcast - Similar to Batman-on-Film but with deeper discussions on all DC movie properties. Hosts Tim Yoko and Scott McClellan, while DC fans, will still let you know if something isn’t quite what they’d hoped for, but generally with a constructive discussion that may get you thinking.
     
  • MCU Fan Show - Sean Gerber and Paul Herman dissect all things MCU related. Sean is by far one of the most knowledgeable comic book movie podcasters around, with not just comic book movie content but plenty of understanding of the movie business behind the scenes. (Really wish he’d bring back his DCU Fan Show as well). This show is a must for MCU fans.
     
  • The Weekly Planet - An all Australian Podcast that’s gained international following thanks to hosts Mr Sunday Movies (James Brooks) and Nick Mason, who always deliver highly entertaining and hilarious commentary, yet still manage to dive deep, on all things comic book movie related (or even sometimes not related).

Podcasts for Enterprising Side Hustlers

Just like with comic book movies, I don’t really know anyone who is constantly working on some kind of side hustle, trying to make enough to cover living expenses, so I never actually have to work a ‘regular job’. Again I turn to podcasts for tips and advice.
  • Side Hustle School - Chris Guillebeau has become synonymous with inspiring people to live independent lives outside of the 9 to 5 rat race. Side Hustle school is his daily, ten minute podcast featuring real people and how they started their side hustles. Listen to the daily show or explore the 3-4 year back catalogue of shows for side hustles you may like to try yourself. Well worth exploring the Side Hustle School website for episodes too for all the show notes. Chris has also written a number of books including The $100 Start Up.
     
  • The Mind Your Business Podcast - A very different type of podcast, host, James Wedmore, explores how you can be more successful through mindset and thinking your way to success, often with guests and success stories from his Business By Design Course. It’s all a bit Woo-woo (as he sometimes says) but I’ve actually had a few shows really be more than helpful, and I’m definitely not into ‘woo-woo’ thinking. Again worth exploring the show’s website for back episodes. I highly recommend Episode 125 if you’re dealing with any kind of long term pain that isn’t responding to medical treatment (be warned, you may not like what you hear but it’s definitely worth hearing).
     
  • ProBlogger Podcast - Not currently actively publishing episodes, I’m still mentioning it because it’s well worth diving into the back catalogue to do the 31 days to a better blog challenge. If you’re in any way interested in starting a money making blog, host, Darren Rowse, is the recognized guru of earning a full time living from blogging. He’s still very active on the ProBlogger website (as he should be).

New Cat Art Collaboration: TET's Cats Paintings and OpenArt AI Model Workspace (Photobooth)

TET's Cats AI generated art trained on my own art style. Way back in the early 2000's I started painting stylized cat artworks to illustrate some cat themed poems I'd written, that I exhibited and sold online in an exhibition titled 'Sleeping Cats' in 2004. Leading on from that I began selling my paintings on ebay where the cat themed works were almost guaranteed to sell over any other subject I painted. Is AI Art 'Art'? The Say NO to AI Art Movement, and Why Human Artists Will Adapt

Right now there is a big debate over not just whether AI art is 'art' but whether AI's are actually ripping off the work of actual human artists, without their consent, to create their images - particularly images 'in the style of' specific artists. From my own observations this debate started to get more traction when artist's signatures began appearing in the output of AI Art  image generators. Is It Art? Cool Froyd the Cat Sketch by TET. My style is very much influenced by classic Disney and WB character styles. To get some clarity on how real human artists work (of which I am one)... we, that is all of us... take influences from the art that has come before. i.e. whatever artists we like, have studied, seen etc. we are influenced by. TET Artwork Diary: Cats, Goats, and Battlestar Galactica's Cylon, Number Six

Y ou wouldn't know it from this blog, where I reference it a handful of posts , but I am a big fan of the rebooted 2003  Battlestar Galactica Series . Which is how I come to be Facebook following the series most recognised Cylon, Six - well the actress who plays six anyway, Tricia Helfer . How to Transfer Any Line Art to Your Griptape - Easy Skateboard Griptape Art Tutorial

For those of us who have tried to create our own griptape art, using paint pens, you'll know reproducing your design onto the grip, without making any mistakes is incredibly challenging. Mostly because you just have to go for it and draw the design freehand, with paint pens, directly onto the griptape. You can make the odd mistake here or there but if you get the proportions of the design completely wrong, it can be very difficult to fix. Often you just have to live with the mistake. To address the problem I've come up with an easy way anyone can transfer a line art design to their griptape, removing almost all the anxiety of getting the proportions wrong. Two night Stay Glenelg, South Australia - Glenelg Motel, Beach Front, Cafe Strip/Jetty Road, and Evening Temptation Twilight Cruise
