Perth, Western Australia: Amanda's Garden Fete, The Corfield Tavern - Day 13

Final full day of our trip to Perth. Enigma and I headed over to my sister's house, to pick her up, and then meet my brother and Mum at Amanda's Garden Fete in Gosnells (not far from Southern River road).

Luckily we got parking right opposite the gate when another car pulled out at just the opportune moment. About 5 or so minutes later my brother and Mum arrived, also managing to find parking not far from the gate.

Amanda's Garden Fete is an annual charity event that takes place on a weekend, toward the end of October, raising funds for meningococcal disease awareness, support and research. Aside from being able to explore a beautifully maintained private garden there are Devonshire teas, a sausage sizzle, musical entertainment, seek and find game for kids, and stalls selling plants and other bric-a-brac. Entry is $5 per person.

If you're particularly about buying plants then you'd be right at home at this event, with many varieties of flowers and other plants on sale, including the yellow, Amanda Rose (which I presume is a unique variety of rose created in honor of Amanda Young, whose passing brought the whole Amanda Young Foundation into being).

Personally I'm not a flowers or plants kind of person beyond appreciating a nice garden when I'm in one, so after we'd finished browsing the bric-a-brac stalls (where my brother and Enigma played a giant game of connect four) and plants we headed over to the Devonshire tea area.

It was quite busy, and took us a while to commandeer a table for five. I think there was a range of food you could choose from but the main offering was either tea or coffee with a jam and cream scone for $5. Which the staff would help bring to your table if need be despite being very busy with service.

There was a singer/band performing while we enjoyed our food. I seem to remember them performing some very old, classic songs, that used to be in my primary school's song book back in the day. Writing this several months later, I can't recall what, and I didn't think to make a note at the time.

We spent the rest of our time at the fete walking around the actual garden, which I highly recommend is a photographer's paradise of interesting shots of plants, statues and more.

My brother wasn't sure if a cow statue was transgender or not considering it had horns and udders. I must admit I wasn't sure at the time (neither of us know much about cows) but Google tells me almost all cows can, potentially, grow horns, and those without have either had them removed or have had horns bred out of their breed. So... probably not a trans cow but you never know... maybe some cows would identify as trans.

I did not know that most cows potentially can have horns (and according to Google they
aren't afraid to use them either). The sheep statue seems unconcerned.

After wandering around the garden for a bit we all headed off for a late lunch at The Corfield Tavern in Gosnells, I place my family used to frequent on those nights we went out for dinner. Currently it is completely different to how I remember it with new restaurant areas added and the entire interior changed around.

Back in the day I remember it being very dimly lit, but cozy, with carpeted floors. Now it's very open with a more sparse, contemporary look.

I ordered the fish n chips while Enigma had a chicken burger. Both very nice.

Since this was our final full day in Perth, before flying back to South Australia the following morning, we all went back to my brother's house for an afternoon tea and last get together before saying our good byes and heading back to our apartment.

It was definitely great to catch up with family after far too long away (partially thanks to the pandemic laws delaying our plans). I certainly hope it won't be anywhere near as long for the next trip.
