Course Review: Passive Income for Graphic Designers - Sell Your Designs, Graphics, Fonts & More

Passive Income is that somewhat elusive idea of earning a living even while you're sleeping. Often considered a 'scam' term used by charismatic marketers to sell you a dream of instant riches asterixed with, in very tiny print "results may vary".

Passive Income Course for Graphic Designers is a Udemy course by Skybox Creative (a.k.a. designer, Angelina Samadhi) that guides you through the actual work you need to do (a point that is often glossed over by those charismatic marketers) to create a passive income business selling digital art and design products online.

Note that I am an Udemy Affiliate and links within this article to the course are affiliate links. You don't have to use them but it does help keep this site free. Having said that, Passive Income for Graphic Designers is a course I have completed in full, not simply to write a review, but to actually learn from Angelina's experience... because I'm definitely not earning a living from affiliate links!

The course is a five hour video course with accompanying worksheets for you to print and fill out to help plan your own journey, implementing what you've learned as you go.

Angelina has a very calming voice and explains every section of the course very clearly without ever getting too bogged down in the detail or being sidetracked from the main points of each lesson.

Through logical steps she guides you through the planning and development stages of creating a website store selling your digital creations.

Using her own store as an example Angelina shows how she developed her products and suggests ways you can package your own designs. As well she gives you options for other markets to sell in and how to go about promoting your work to potential customers.

Although aimed at graphic designers the content is easily relevant for anyone in the visual arts, traditional or digital.

Prior to this course I'd never really thought about selling my art as digital products beyond anything other than images for print on demand products (such as Red Bubble). I found myself looking at a lot of my own art and thinking how I could package it as a digital product that maybe someone could repurpose in their design work or other projects.

Having since completed the course I've yet to successfully implement a passive income stream from my own digital products (as I'm writing this) but I am using the course as a guide, referring back to various sections for direction and ideas. It's taking me longer because my business vision involves passive income integrated into a larger business idea I'm piecing together.

Probably my only criticism, in terms of the course content, is in the early stages where Angelina takes a holistic approach to work life balance, as you develop a vision for your business and life.

If you're not particularly 'spiritual,' in a non-religious sense, some of the more abstract ideas may either be a little confronting or you may roll your eyes at them (I lean a little toward the latter). As with everything else the course doesn't get bogged down here either. You're moving into more practical steps very quickly.

Overall this course has a lot of good information and may get you thinking a little more outside the box with how to turn your designs into passive income. I appreciated how straight forward it is without being overly long. While you could complete the course in a day I'd recommend pacing it out over a week or so to give you time to really think about your vision as you complete the worksheets.

Review: Beware the Batman - Animated TV Series

I first wrote about the 26 part TV series, Beware the Batman in my Animation and Video blog when the initial trailer was released back in June of 2013. At the time I was underwhelmed with the shows CGI and almost immaculate Gotham City streets. For some reason the show was only ever aired at odd times on late night TV here in Australia, which seems to have been it's fate for the second half of the series in the USA too. James Gunn's Social Media Monkeys Joke Was a Highlight of His Superman Movie For Me

B efore James Gunn's Superman Movie was released there was a whole rumor going around that the movie would feature monkeys on computers trolling Superman's social media, sparking much outrage. #supersh*t. A fter hearing just about everybody I know, who's into comic book TV and film, say how great the new animated Disney+ series X-Men 97 is, I decided to check it out. Most people said you didn't need to watch the actual 90's animated series that this continues from in order to enjoy it or know what was going on. More than one fan of this new series offered the hyperbole that this is one of Marvel's best, up there with the likes of Wandavision and Loki , and that it should be more popular and getting more attention than it has. For those of us who have tried to create our own griptape art, using paint pens, you'll know reproducing your design onto the grip, without making any mistakes is incredibly challenging. Mostly because you just have to go for it and draw the design freehand, with paint pens, directly onto the griptape. You can make the odd mistake here or there but if you get the proportions of the design completely wrong, it can be very difficult to fix. Often you just have to live with the mistake.
