In the spirit of my past blog entries such as My first blog entry is more interesting than yours and The infamous second blog entry I felt it only fitting that my first video blog entry should be equally lame.

Just press the 'play' button to view the video. Not sure what it's like on dialup [2021 TET - Yes, dialup was still a thing in 2006] but works good on broadband.

    Tell me more! Tell me more! I am hanging on your every word and will definitely tune in regularly to catch the next episode! Then - as your Mum, I haven't seen you since July'04, being in another state, so you could be speaking Chinese and I would tune in just to get to see you!

    I have played this 4 times, because I had to wait for that little blue line to finish loading, I realised - or hoped - as it kept stopping and starting, freezing your face into funny expressions, so I could only hope that I would get to hear the whole story! (perhaps it's because my broadband is on the lowest Easy Start plan at the moment with 56k modem speed, or is this normal?)I had to turn my speakers right up too and turn down the tellie!

    I was wondering if the screen area could be a bit bigger to fit your whole head or sit back a bit from the screen as when you get too close, it enlarges the features, mainly the nose?

    I see you are rugged up for the cold in your studio, and you looked quite decent - even the hair - no beanie.... but maybe a bit more colour in clothes, with some soft lighting, to give you a nice warm glow!! I don't know about these tech things, just suggestions, but I think it's great - will email the rellies to have alook! Have you got web cam for the Messenger and would it be as good as this, or is that only still pictures, if you don't have video facility?

    The video probably would stop and start a bit on the lowest plan but it sounds like it was still watchable.

    I don't know about you're sound though. On this particular video I doubled the volume so I think maybe you need better speakers or should really have a good look at your sound settings. I can hear this video okay with only the volume turned half way up on all of our computers.

    I was sitting close to the camera cause I wanted it to seem like I was speaking up close and personal. In future videos I'll sit back a bit so my head doesn't get chopped off.

    It's very hard to get the lighting right too - particularly at night (when this was recorded) but I'm working on it. Working on the colour also but this looks washed out a bit because of the lights.

    If I was using messenger I'd use the same web cam - so the picture might be about the same, not sure how fluid the motion would be though - could be a bit choppy.

Photo: Adrien de Gerlache   Y ou wouldn't ordinarily think of cats and penguins together in the same image but that's what I found myself creating when thinking of an idea for my next painting. I have painted penguins before as part of my Australian Animals series from the early 2000's, and I have a couple of cartoon  penguins (that you can see in a very old post, Designing Formal Penguins ) I created for a Yeti skateboard graphic, so, I didn't just randomly think, 'penguins'. Recently I had a revelation about my art, in that I don't simply paint pictures of cats, I paint 'relationships'. Almost all of my paintings of cats feature two or more cats, or a cat with something, such as a butterfly, bird, fish, goat... and why not a penguin? However, I didn't want to just paint some random cat with some random penguin. I wondered if there was ever any real cats in history that may have a reason to meet a penguin? Turns out, on...

"Ya Mum Reads it..."

You'l find my own Photography in this blog too. Quite a while back I did a survey that tells you what kind of audience credibility your blog has. I'm not sure what the score was but I do remember the commentary which boiled down to "Your mother reads your blog regularly but you probably don't have much wider appeal". Fuck you survey! (Hi Mum, sorry for cursing! I do appreciate you reading, really I do!) I don't know how many regular readers I have, if any, but I do know, on average this blog receives more than 4000 page hits per month, much of it coming from search engines like Google. Perhaps of some interest is my new current top search entry point of all time, people looking for Bert and Ernie,  who I wrote some commentary about when it was officially announced that the Sesame Street Characters were not gay . Movie Review: Project Hail Mary (2026) *No Spoilers*

T his wasn't a movie I particularly wanted to see even though it's right in my wheelhouse, realistic Sci-fi. However, after Project Hail Mary did so well in theatres it became a movie I wanted to check out once it reached streaming. In this case I watched it on Amazon Prime Video. It wasn't really on my radar because, on the surface, it's not anything I haven't seen before, even quite recently. Lone astronaut goes on some kind of mission, mission fails, astronaut tries to salvage the mission and somehow finds a way home. However, in my opinion, what makes this film different is in the detail. There are a lot of often seen tropes here presented in new ways, that may capture your imagination. The movie opens with science teacher, Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling), waking up from deep sleep on a spaceship, far from Earth, with no memory of why he is there. The Lego Man - He's got all that!

Who would have thought that owning one of the worlds largest, private Lego collections could take you so far. Tom Lucieer of Angaston, South Australia, not only has met the Queen (of England) but is a frequent guest of her majesty and family when they are in Australia. He's also met Prince Charles, Lady Diana and Camila Parker-Bowles. Not only that, he grew up with TV Vet, Dr Harry, and is a friend of the Irwin family (yes, that's Steve Irwin's family). Tom will happily tell you all this as part of the guided tour of his collection, which, aside from Lego, includes much railway memorabilia and colourful anecdotes about days gone by, his achievements and more. Frequently he will finish each particular monologue with the phrase, "Have you got that?", just to check that he hasn't confused you because, as he points out, his display and the stories behind it are a lot to take in at once. Movie Review: Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026) *No Spoilers*

T his is the first time in quite a while we've seen a live action Spider-Man that is, essentially, a fully formed, grown up superhero, fighting crime on his own terms rather than looking to mentors to guide him.  In  Spider-Man: Brand New Day  it's four years after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home . No one knows who Peter Parker is but Spider-Man has become a local legend, helping to keep New York free of crime. Personally, Peter is still struggling with not reconnecting with his former friends, whose lives are again put at risk when a new foe crosses his path. If you're a fan of Tom Holland's Spider-Man films, and the MCU in general this film should not only not disappoint, you may even consider it to be one of the best MCU films you've seen in a while. I really enjoyed all the quick cameos by small time Spider-Man villains even though I don't know many of them.
