Book Review: The Happiness of Pursuit - by Chris Guillebeau | Find the Quest that will Bring Purpose to Your Life

The Happiness of Pursuit by Chris Guillebeau. Reviewed by TET Unlike Chris Guillebeau's other books, such as The $100 Startup , The Happiness of Pursuit is less of a how to guide and more about finding inspiration. The book is set out in a logical order of sections and chapters starting with why people go on quests, what to expect while on a quest, and then debriefing once a quest is achieved (or not). However there is no ten point plan or step by step guide to achievement. Instead the book looks at many different case studies of people who have pursued seemingly insurmountable quests, what it took to get started, how they broke everything down into manageable tasks, the problems they faced, and their conclusions after having completed their goal. Along the way Chris offers practical advice from both his research and as someone who also pursued a quest of visiting every country in the world. Some of the real case studies include (and many probably wouldn't even spring to mind...

Book Review: The $100 Startup by Chris Guillebeau / Fire Your Boss, Do What You Love and Work Better to Live More.

The $100 Startup by Chris Guillebeau I'm a long time follower of Chris Guillebeau's work, first jumping onboard when he released The Unconventional Guide to Art + Money ebook back in 2009. I've been a regular listener of his Side Hustle School Podcast too (to which I also bought the accompanying book and will review in a future post). His philosophy of creating small businesses and side hustles with small start up costs is one I can easily get behind and put into practice - because I was doing just that long before I discovered Chris. However Chris has spent probably thousands of hours, at this point, researching hundreds of small businesses worldwide and how they grew out of an idea, hobby, passtime, or even just a flight of fancy. Which means any book he writes on the subject is bound to be packed full of useful information and insight. The $100 Startup is very much that. Though I will say the title is more of an approximation than an actual startup cost. ...

Book Review: Side Hustle by Chris Guillebeau - From Idea to Income in 27 Days. Build a Side Business and Make Extra Money Without Quitting Your Day Job

Side Hustle by Chris Guillebeau Chris Guillebeau is probably one of the most unassuming, down to Earth entrepreneurs, authors in the side hustle space. Somehow he manages to give practical advice through his books and Side Hustle School podcast without actually looking like he's trying to sell anything. So how is it I'm now reviewing a fourth book of his that I purchased? He's clearly doing something right. I actually bought Chris' book, Side Hustle , quite some time ago but I've been so busy in my side hustles it's taken me a while to set time aside for reading.  These days if I don't schedule reading time and commit to it each day I just don't read actual books. So that's what I did. Cut down on my YouTube watching at breakfast by 30 minutes so I could read instead of watching videos. Well worth it, without a doubt. If you're like me, aware that you should also set time to work on your business rather than in your business, Chris' book, ...

How to Market and Sell Your Art Online

The Unconventional Guide to Art + Money ebook by Chris Guillebeau and Zoë Westhof E-Book Review by TET Less than two percent of Bachelor of Arts Graduates in Australia will actually go on to become established artists. At least that's the figure according to an article I recently read in The Adelaide Review by Peter Drew titled, Poor Odds for Arts . That article is very relevant to this review as it highlights the emergence of Artist Run Initiatives (ARIs). Particularly the idea of young artists not waiting for their big break with a major mainstream gallery but instead, actually getting out there, finding their own audience and making their own success. Many artists are turning to new media, such as the Internet, to promote and sell their work directly to collectors. Unfortunately this process can be trial and error to find what works. This is where The Unconventional Guide to Art + Money ebook by Chris Guillebeau and Zoë Westhof steps in by delving into the real world experien...

You Can Travel the World Full Time, All You Need to Do is Start

Free photo 86246960 © creativecommonsstockphotos - Dreamstime.com Travelling the world full time seems like an unattainable dream. Such an endeavour must be expensive, difficult to organize, and be filled with too many unknown risks to even contemplate? In reality, the biggest barrier to living the dream is thinking it's all too hard, so you never actually start. Vans, Boats, and Planes Van-Life Maybe your travel dream isn't quite as big as travelling the world? View this post on Instagram Be honest... Did I just catch you scrolling on the toilet?! #GuiltyAsCharged 📸: @robanzit A post shared by Vanlife | Eamon & Bec (@rebeccamoroney) on Oct 12, 2018 at 7:47am PDT Meet Eamen and Bec , who live and travel around Canada and North America in a converted van that is their home. They vlog about their travels and partially fund what they're doing through a small Chai tea business they started. The two ...

Podcasts for Comic Book Movie Nerds and Enterprising Side Hustlers

If you haven’t discovered Podcasts yet you’re missing out on an entire world of ready to listen to content covering a whole library of interests that you can download into your favorite mobile podcast app and listen to at your convenience. If you have I thought I’d spend take the opportunity to recommend some of the podcasts I’m listening to. My podcast app of choice is Beyond Pod for Android but any podcast app will probably do. Once you have your app installed search for these shows from within the app. Comic Book Movie Podcasts If you haven’t noticed I’m a total comic book movie nerd but I don’t really know anyone who likes these movies as much as I do. Consequently I seek out podcasts where I can hear all kinds of discussions surrounding these movies, from the moment they are first announced, to a scene by scene, spoiler breakdown of the final movie release (after I’ve seen the film of course). Fatman Beyond - Director, Kevin Smith, and screen writer Marc Bernardin, deliver a usu...

Creating a Blog Business: Digital Art and Animation / Part 4: You're Not Going to Like This and Further Resources

If you're a regular reader of this blog, or at least trying to be if I'd just stick to posting at least one article per week, you may have noticed it's been a few weeks since my last entry . You may also be wondering, where is the real part 4 in my  Creating a Blog Business: Digital Art and Animation series ? The truth is, I hit a wall with this series in that, writing about the steps to starting a blog business, whilst trying to actually start a blog business, is more of a commitment than I'm able to make just at the moment.
