iRobot Roomba: Why the Machine Uprising Starts Here

iRobot's Roomba is pretty much the first mass consumer robot. If iRobot had their way I'm sure their goal is to see at least one of these in every home on the planet.Watch the official product demonstration video for the 780 model below.

It all looks innocent enough right? It cleans your floors so you don't have to. That's the pitch but what is it really doing? Ever since robots got their own cloud network and someone invented the internet of things you can bet there's more going on than you know about.

Here's a device that has intimate knowledge of the layout of your house, including whatever you're hiding under the bed!

It's number one priority task is cleaning your whole house thoroughly. You know that's a very desirable skill to have when it's about to turn your home into a crime scene.

What I want to know is why does a cleaning device need to monitor its environment sixty times per second using multiple sensors? I'm pretty sure it's probably monitoring your location at all times ready for some drone with lasers attached to take you out. 

...and why does it have both optical and acoustical sensors? It's not just watching but listening to you as well.

The fact that the Roomba is totally responsible for keeping its self always charged means it can monitor you 24/7 without you having to do anything.

With millions sold worldwide not only has the invasion started but if you've bought one, you've paid it's traveling expenses to get to your home!

Let's also not forget that iRobot builds robots for the military too.

If all that wasn't enough to convince you that Roombas are a real threat, take note that just like many evil geniuses before them Roomba's are befriending cats because... well that's just what all evil geniuses have at their side. Don't believe me then watch the playlist of Roombas and cats below.

    I wouldn't be able to listen to this thing for long----so I wouldn't buy one for my cat, nor for my house---I personally don't mind the chore of running a vac over the carpet, but moreover, getting the sound over with quickly.

      They always seem to advertise Roomba's as quiet and unobtrusive. I've yet to see one that doesn't sound like... well... a regular vacuum cleaner. I'd actually like to have a Roomba but I'm not convinced they work as well as the ads would have you believe.

The Dukes of Hazard Movie - My Thoughts

The Dukes of Hazard is a movie that I wanted to see when it was released in 2005 but didn't because, well, I just didn't get around to it. Not only that but when I heard Johnny Knoxville and Jessica Simpson were in it my expectations were immediately lowered to "it's probably not going to be what I hoped it could be." Which is why I've never been pro-active about hiring the movie on DVD. Last night I saw it was being shown on free to air TV. I happened to have the time to watch, so I did. To sum up my experience... I didn't get fired up by the movie until I watched the 'bloopers' in the end credits. The Dukes of Hazard signature is the car. The General Lee flying through the air in some flat out impossible jumps. We know they're impossible jumps but they're just so cool you kind of want to believe the General Lee can do them. Making the Ukulele Cool Again By Inventing One That Transforms Into a Guitar Mid-Performance

Who Even Reads This?

W riting this blog is largely both a labor of love and a discipline. Since about 2006 (the blog started in 2004) I have written a minimum of two posts per month. Sometimes I've posted more, particularly in the last 4-5 years, where I've tried to write and post at least one article a week without fail. Unfortunately it's not a niche blog, unless the niche is things that interest me. Which means my blog is either too broad to have regular readers or too niche to have anyone other than my mum reading it. Which she does (hi Mum) as we established back in January of 2014 in the post Ya Mum Reads it... That said, this blog overall regularly gets 6-7k views every month, mostly through people finding various articles through search engines. By far the largest traffic source is 'Other' which is basically unknown sources. I'm willing to bet a large percentage of that is the dead internet. Embarrassing Yourself with Doof Doof Music

Ever since Spinal Tap popularized the notion of turning an amp up to eleven audio systems have been rising to the challenge of louder, more awesome sound. In particular, car audio systems have embraced the notion of the bigger the noise the better the sound must surely be. What I'd like to know is, if these sound systems are so good, why do they make all music sound the same... Doof, Doof, Doof? You've all heard them. Pimped up cars, with audio systems seemingly worth more than gold, volume blasting way past eleven. Sound waves booming long before you make a positive visual on the car... Doof, Doof, Doof. It has to be the audio system right? Surely all these people can't be playing the same tune? Doof, Doof, Doof. Could it be that the more money spent on a car sound system the less musical range it will actually play? Movie Review: Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu (2026) *Spoiler Free*

F rom the moment it was announced, I knew I was probably not going to see Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu in cinemas. The Mandalorian Disney+ Series finished it's story with no real pointers towards where a future story might go, beyond 'the further adventures of...' There was nothing to really hook me in. I did enjoy the series but it never got me invested in the title character or his cute prodigy so much that I wanted to see more.  Unlike the original Mandalorian, Boba Fett, who I was eager to see more of, until he got his own spin off series. Then I just wondered who wanted this particular story, that clarified everything about such a cool and mysterious character until there was no mystery left? Then we got the trailers for The Mandalorian and Grogu which  confirmed it was just a new adventure as a standalone film, with the purpose of introducing the characters to people who hadn't watched the series.
