The Australian Greens Show How a Political Campaign Ad Should Be Done - More Parties Should Use This as a Template

Long time readers of this blog may know that I'm a woke liberal who isn't on the extreme left by any means but, thanks to Australian Labor being so much in the center these days, supporting the Greens will make anyone seem like they're on the 'radical' left.

I point this out up front because the Greens recently launched their Tax the 1% campaign with a campaign ad, Time's Up - Here's How we FIX our Economy, that I think is a model for any political party to emulate.

Immediately I know you're thinking, I'm just showing my political bias, because I've been first preferencing Greens candidates in every election for at least the past decade, however, watch the ad below then hear me out.

Whether you agree with Larissa Waters, Leader of the Australian Greens, assertations in the above video or are standing with your back to the video in protest, what it does is clearly identifies the problems the Greens have determined are the ones most pressing for everyday Australians, explained how we got here in easy to understand language, and then presents solutions that the party believes are the best course of action.

What I wouldn't give for all political parties to adopt this template for at least one of their campaign ads, instead of ads trashing their opponents performance and offering their party as the solution - with little to no detail on what they'd actually implement.

Now I'm not saying the Greens ad goes into any great detail on anything they would be doing either but you do get the key takeaways that corporations and the super wealthy are getting all the breaks at the expense of everyone not in the 1%, privatisation of public services hasn't worked, and the major political parties are beheld to political donations that have too much influence over their political decision making.

The Greens suggest taxing the 1%, bringing public services back into pubic ownership, and supporting a party that doesn't accept political donations and, therefore, can work for all Australian's interests, is the way forward.

Whether you agree with them or have just assumed the Greens are the 'radical' left who only care about the environment, you can't say you wouldn't appreciate a similar ad from whichever party you support. I believe it would go a long way toward restoring people's trust in politics in general because we would all know what each party sees as the problems and what their focus is in fixing them.

It's not a big ask.

The Dukes of Hazard is a movie that I wanted to see when it was released in 2005 but didn't because, well, I just didn't get around to it. Movie Review: Tomb Raider (2018) Spoiler Free

B ack in the 1990s I was a big fan of the Tomb Raider computer games. Aside from the obvious drawcard of the games female lead, Lara Croft, it was the only game back in the day that was a true 3D, third person shooter/adventure game. Boom Crash Opera Born Classic But Not Again

Boom Crash Opera are an Australian Band that reached the peak of their popularity in the mid to late nineteen eighties. They are a band that I knew about at that time but was never really excited by until they released their ill fated double album Born and Born Again in 1995 (Album cover pictured). At the time of its release I was very much into emerging Australian musical acts and was also looking out for new sounds that were different and had kind of a futuristic/electronic sound. Artists that I was buying at the time included; Swoop , Nine Inch Nails and Pop Will Eat Its Self . As well as a really interesting release by David Bowie, the concept album, Outside . Born was a fairly radical departure for Boom Crash Opera (BCO).
