Quite a while back I did a survey that tells you what kind of audience credibility your blog has. I'm not sure what the score was but I do remember the commentary which boiled down to "Your mother reads your blog regularly but you probably don't have much wider appeal".

Fuck you survey! (Hi Mum, sorry for cursing! I do appreciate you reading, really I do!)

I don't know how many regular readers I have, if any, but I do know, on average this blog receives more than 4000 page hits per month, much of it coming from search engines like Google.

Perhaps of some interest is my new current top search entry point of all time, people looking for Bert and Ernie, who I wrote some commentary about when it was officially announced that the Sesame Street Characters were not gay. Which is quite a departure from Krippin Virus from a few years back when the movie I am Legend came out.

The thing about this blog is that it's not focused on any one specific niche like my Animation and Video Blog - which I started long after this blog but that blog surpassed this in total page views quite some time ago. This blog is for me to write about anything.

However if you're new to this blog, it does have some common themes...

  • Movie Reviews/Commentary.
    If I see a movie I'll usually write a review. If it's a movie that inspires me to think or is a genre I enjoy (particularly Sci-Fi or Superheroes) I'll probably write a more in depth analysis with spoilers that you should read after seeing the film.
     
  • Robot Invasion/Technology.
    It's an established fact, as shown in The Terminator series of documentaries sent from the future, that the machine uprising is going to happen and I'm here to write about every step that brings us closer. Seriously though, I've always had an interest in robots specifically and other technologies in a broader sense. I hope to see true Artificial Intelligence developed in my lifetime before running for cover a few minutes later as our machine overloads take their first steps to world domination.
     
  • Art (of course)
    Art has taken a back seat of late as most of my work has been in animation and, as I've mentioned, I have another blog for that. I don't just write about my own art, when I am tuned in to the Art World I point and laugh at what other people pass for art... or stare in awe at their genius. You may also be interested to read my book on Art Business
     
  • Travel and Places
    Again this has taken something of a back seat but when I do travel I try to blog about the places I've seen (buy my 2007 Travel Diary perhaps?). I'm always hoping to travel more so I can appear more worldly and adventurous but lately I've been more Walter Mitty pre Negative 25.
     
  • News and Events
    Occasionally I'll take an interest in topical news, world issues or people making the news. Particularly if there's an election on. I try not to get too political because I can't stand conservatives once they get on a soap box. They often sound like they're talking sense but I know they're not and, if I really cared (or was better prepared), I'd counter their arguments with something more than 'whatever'. At least I can say I stepped up and was an actual politician for three and a half years. That's more than most people do - even if I wasn't very effective.
     
  • Life Observations and Humor
    This used to be my favorite part of writing this blog, especially on those occasions that, without even trying, I'd overhear the most unusual snippets of conversations and then blog about them. Apparently the best way to write about life is to experience it, so I'll have find some big mystery to solve that involves going to Iceland and down hill skateboarding.
     
  • Everything else not related to Animation and Video.
    As I said, this blog is for me to write about anything. So this is where the rest of it goes.
     
It really doesn't matter to me that I don't have an obvious regular readership (and if I do, comment more you bastards! Oops, sorry Mum... I do appreciate your comments too, even if I don't always reply, like I should).

My stats show that most articles are viewed by more than 20-30 people in the first couple of weeks. That's more than enough to make this worthwhile. Even though I write this more for me I do appreciate anyone that takes the time to read.

Happy New Year and here's to a more well written 2014.

    I subscribe to your Newletter and presumably your blogs as I receive them in my Inbox. Why wouldn't I reply to them given that? I only comment on the ones that interest me, not so much on the Sci-Fi or technical ones or abut Batman movies etc if I don't know enough about them.

    There must be more people reading than are commenting then, because I haven't seen anyone put a comment on in a long while.

    Forgot to say, though I have asked back in the past, why aren't we notified of replies to our comments? I have to leave the email in my Inbox so I can click on the title link again to see if there are any replies from you, or maybe from someone else.

    I have no real way of knowing who reads and who arrives here from a search engine site and realizes the article is probably not what they were looking for.

    Not every article warrants a comment either - I get that. I read a lot of articles that I don't leave a comment on too. I can only guess that some of the people do actually stay and at least read the article they clicked on.

    I don't know why you aren't notified of replies? In replying to your comment I see there's a little box down in the bottom right corner that I can tick if I want to be notified... can you see it and are you making sure it's selected?

      You need to change the 'Reply as:' setting to something other than 'Name/URL'. I'm not sure what though? It can no longer notify you with the current setting because you're not using a profile that includes an email address.

      Which is probably why you've stopped getting notifications... the comment system changed and now has no option to just put in your name and email address.

    I don't ever remember getting notifications, it's always been Name/URL as the only one I could select. Do you get notifications of replies, or don't need them with it being your blog etc. You'd have to remember to look though?

Boom Crash Opera Born Classic But Not Again

Boom Crash Opera are an Australian Band that reached the peak of their popularity in the mid to late nineteen eighties. They are a band that I knew about at that time but was never really excited by until they released their ill fated double album Born and Born Again in 1995 (Album cover pictured). At the time of its release I was very much into emerging Australian musical acts and was also looking out for new sounds that were different and had kind of a futuristic/electronic sound. Artists that I was buying at the time included; Swoop , Nine Inch Nails and Pop Will Eat Its Self . As well as a really interesting release by David Bowie, the concept album, Outside . Born was a fairly radical departure for Boom Crash Opera (BCO). The first single, Gimme , was often compared to the sounds of Gary Glitter, particularly his single, Rock n Roll part 2 , because of the pounding drum loops. Watch the video below. Kids today are smarter than their parents?

I’ve heard it quite frequently in the media – even Dr Phil has said it. I say speak for yourself. It’s not true and don’t let the media fool you. Today’s kids may have access to more information that may give them more choices but in my experience, they only take in what they want to hear and still make stupid, uninformed decisions. Just like we used to at their age. Like any cross section of people there will be exceptions. There are kids that are genuinely smarter, more mature and responsible for their age. However the vast majority know everything they need to know by the time they turn fourteen. The Lego Man - He's got all that!

Who would have thought that owning one of the worlds largest, private Lego collections could take you so far. Tom Lucieer of Angaston, South Australia, not only has met the Queen (of England) but is a frequent guest of her majesty and family when they are in Australia. He's also met Prince Charles, Lady Diana and Camila Parker-Bowles. Not only that, he grew up with TV Vet, Dr Harry, and is a friend of the Irwin family (yes, that's Steve Irwin's family). Tom will happily tell you all this as part of the guided tour of his collection, which, aside from Lego, includes much railway memorabilia and colourful anecdotes about days gone by, his achievements and more. Frequently he will finish each particular monologue with the phrase, "Have you got that?", just to check that he hasn't confused you because, as he points out, his display and the stories behind it are a lot to take in at once. How to Transfer Any Line Art to Your Griptape - Easy Skateboard Griptape Art Tutorial

Dog Star Griptape Art by TET Griptape art is once again gaining popularity amongst modern skateboarders. For those of us who have tried to create our own griptape art, using paint pens, you'll know reproducing your design onto the grip, without making any mistakes is incredibly challenging. Mostly because you just have to go for it and draw the design freehand, with paint pens, directly onto the griptape. You can make the odd mistake here or there but if you get the proportions of the design completely wrong, it can be very difficult to fix. Often you just have to live with the mistake. To address the problem I've come up with an easy way anyone can transfer a line art design to their griptape, removing almost all the anxiety of getting the proportions wrong. New TET Painting: Cat Amongst the Pigeons - Prints Available

I n my previous post, Painting Whimsical Cats (and probably other stuff) Again After Almost a Decade Away From Traditional Art , I, obviously, mentioned I'm painting cats again. It wasn't an empty promise. As you can see I've created my first official, new cat painting - since the previous one was actually a test piece - titled Cat Amongst the Pigeons . This painting features two firsts; the first time I've painted a cat with pigeons, and the first time I've broken the edge of my white border with the image. TV Series Review: Wonder Man (2026) - Disney+ *No Spoilers*

F or those of you that aren't adverse to your superhero content being a little more character driven and a lot less big action set pieces then Marvel's TV series, under the 'Marvel Spotlight' banner, Wonder Man , is a real underrated gem. Wanna-be actor, Simon Williams (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) is a suspected superhero in hiding who believes, he was born to play the title role in a new superhero movie, Wonder Man. A chance meeting with fallen actor, Trevor Slattery (Ben Kingsley), formerly known as 'The Mandarin', at an audition, puts them both on a path to success but, everything isn't quite as it seems. While you will certainly relate very quickly to Trevor if you know his past from the movie Iron Man III , or, to a lesser extent, Shang-Chi , neither are essential viewing.
